{Vision} Daydreaming in Color...

In describing the “V” or “Vision” in Living With E.N.V.Y., I mention the concept of ‘Conscious Daydreaming’. We all daydream – we all are consumed with self-talk all day long. Our Inner Voice -- or what I’ve heard described as our ‘Constant Companion’ – is like a live feed of steaming observations and judgments of what’s happening moment to moment.

Imagine if we could actually live in that momentary play-by-play and be clear to let thoughts free flow… I believe this would allow us to tap in to our true desires and live from and by them. If only…

In reality, all too much of the time our Inner Voice is consumed with negativity – self-criticism, anxiety, ‘should haves’ of the past and a made-up future of fears and doubt. Learning techniques to harness our self-talk to be not only positive, but also productive in creating our future from our truth, or our authentic self, is truly Living a Life of ENVY.

I believe that we each have a way, a technique if you will, to calm our minds in order for thoughts to free-flow. We know when we are in that mode of thinking creatively, solving problems easily, visualizing a success or a great plan in full detail. We’ve all felt that amazing feeling of “I’ve got this!” – a surge of confidence, clarity and vision. For me, nothing puts me into Conscious Daydreaming mode better than running outdoors. There are mornings that I cannot wait to lace up my Brooks and start that rhythmic movement, one foot in front of the other, hearing my breath deepen and being free to let my thoughts flow without disruption. Running is not about how fast or far I go -- for me, it’s all about stifling my negative Inner Voice and being fully present in my thoughts as they flow from what I’m presently feeling or seeing in nature, to what I want for myself in a week, a year, ten years….

One of my close friends, a full grown adult with a demanding finance job, does her best thinking, her best Conscious Daydreaming, sitting down at a table with a coloring book and a big box of colored pencils. Carefully shading and methodically layering colors – seeing black and white transformed into gorgeous color -- allows her mind to calm, allows her be present with her thoughts. For her, it’s not about creating an art masterpiece, it’s the desire to re-center and re-connect to her deeper self. It’s a craving to suppress anxieties and the part of her mind that multi-tasks and is visually over-stimulated through looking at multiple computer screens for many hours at a time. Not only has she mastered the art of ‘Conscious Daydreaming’ -- she (day) dreams in full-blown living color!

Life is busy – and filled with stimuli bombarding our thoughts and keeping our minds in auto disruption mode. Figure out what technique of Conscious Daydreaming makes you feel clear, certain and empowered. Dream from your heart and learn to live from your heart’s desires.
