{Vision} Two Weeks into the New Year -- What's Filling Your Plate?

I heard a disturbing, yet believable statistic this morning. Only 10% of New Year’s Resolutions hold beyond the first weeks of January. How is yours going? We all have good and sincere intentions when we make our Resolutions. We, as imperfect beings, seek out ways to (name it.) be happier, healthier, more successful in our careers, better parents or partners. What gets in the way of our ability to make the changes that we know, deep down, we want for ourselves this coming year? Why is it so hard to change habits and behaviors? If I am speaking to your heart, know that it’s NOT too late to redirect your focus and your intentions in order to finally get to where you want and/or need to be.

You need to get out of your own way

For most of us, nothing is standing between our intentions or our New Year’s Resolutions except for our own limiting beliefs of ourselves, of our strength, to make a lasting change. If improving your health – be it for weight loss, changing your diet, getting ride of sugar, alcohol, artificial sweeteners, fast or junk foods, etc. -- You need a plan. It's very difficult to get rid of these foods if you don’t have a plan for swapping them out with a better choice. When I was a student at the 'Institute for Integrative Nutrition', one of the theories for healthy eating that really spoke to me and one which has worked extrememly well when coaching clients of mine, is ‘The Crowd-Out Theory’. Very simply, ‘crowd out’ the not so good food/drink/lifestyle choices/thoughts with choices that will move you more quickly and effectively towards your goal. I think for most of us, this is a far less negative and a ‘friendlier’ approach. It feels less like deprivation, than just not eating, drinking, doing x, y or z. By filling yourself up with cleaner, yet delicious foods, drink, behaviors, thoughts, there is no longer space for that which doesn’t serve your intention or move you closer to your goals. Swap out and crowd out!

It is NOT too late to change your health through better eating choices in 2016. What you eat effects everything from your energy to your body weight and composition to your mood and your ability to more effectively fend off heart issues, cancers, diabetes and other serious diseases. ! ‘Change’ needs to be both attainable and sustainable.
